Chasing Fall: Transforming Phoenix Desert Living with Autumn Hues

11 Sep | Design & Installation

Living in the Phoenix desert, we know that fall doesn’t bring the same crisp air and changing leaves like in other parts of the country. It’s hot and dry, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate the season and get in the festive spirit! There are plenty of ways to incorporate autumn into our lives, even in a desert landscape. Here are 6 creative ideas involving plants to help you embrace autumn and enjoy the fall vibes in Phoenix.

  1. Decorate with Autumnal Plants that Thrive in Phoenix

Just because there aren’t any changing leaves in Phoenix, doesn’t mean there can’t be any autumnal colors. Embrace oranges, yellows, and browns by decorating your Phoenix home with plants like Bromeliads, Crotons, and Begonias. They’re vibrant and perfect for creating a fall aesthetic.

  1. Leverage Phoenix Weather and Plant a Garden

Many plants and vegetables thrive in the Phoenix desert during the fall season. Planting a small garden of fall staples like pumpkins, squash, or even herbs can not only provide a fun activity, but also fresh autumn produce for your dinner table.

  1. Hang Wreaths Inspired by Phoenix

Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas! Hang a wreath on your front door to welcome the fall season. Incorporate warm autumnal hues with wreaths made of preserved flowers, pinecones, or even succulents.

  1. Embrace the Scent of Autumn

Don’t let the Phoenix weather fool you, you can capture the essence of fall right in your own home. Fill your space with the warm fragrance of Cinnamon essential oil. Not only will your house smell like autumn, but you’ll also enjoy the added benefits of its antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Safeguard your plants from pests and diseases by diluting a few drops of this natural deterrent in water and spraying it on their leaves. Let the season come alive with the power of cinnamon.

  1. Decorate with Seasonal Flowers

Use flowers in warm hues like marigolds, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums to add pops of fall color to a drab Phoenix color scheme.

  1. Create a Succulent Pumpkin Centerpiece

One of the best ways to embrace autumn in Phoenix is by creating a unique centerpiece that celebrates the season. But instead of using traditional pumpkin and gourds, try making a succulent pumpkin instead. Cut off the top of a pumpkin and scoop out the insides. Then, use some soil and a variety of succulents to fill the pumpkin. Not only is it a beautiful way to celebrate autumn, but it’s also perfect for the Phoenix heat since succulents thrive in dry soil and don’t need a lot of watering.

Just because we live in the Phoenix desert doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the autumn season like everyone else. By incorporating plants, pumpkins, and seasonal scents, you will put yourself in the fall mood. There are so many ways to add a little bit of autumn into our lives and embrace the season, even in a desert landscape. With these 6 creative ideas, you’ll be able to celebrate autumn and get into the fall vibes in no time!
